Spicy Italian Sausage & Peppers with Penne

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/2 pounds sweet or hot Italian pork sausage, cut into 1/2-inch slices
  • 2 medium green pepper and/or red bell peppers, cut into 2-long strips (about 3 cups)
  • 2 medium onion, thickly sliced (about 1 1/2 cups)
  • 3 cups Prego® Spicy Marinara Italian Sauce
  • 4 cups cooked tube shaped pasta (ziti) or penne pasta, cooked and drained
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sausage in 2 batches and cook until it’s well browned, stirring often. Remove the sausage from the skillet. Pour off any fat.
  2. Reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining oil. Stir the peppers and onions in the skillet and cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Stir the sauce in the skillet. Heat to a boil. Return the sausage to the skillet and reduce the heat to low. Cover and cook for 20 minutes or until the sausage is cooked through and the vegetables are tender. Serve over the pasta and sprinkle with the cheese.
