Frequently Asked Questions

What are the exit arches?

It’s a computer vision technology that captures items in your cart or hands and helps you exit the club faster. The exit arches at the door are equipped with cameras mounted above and to the side of the exit arch. This helps speed up the exit process and doesn’t require most receipts to be checked by an associate.

How do I use the exit arches?

It’s easy, you just walk through the arches after paying via a register with an associate, self-checkout or Scan & Go™ checkout. The cameras in the arch capture you and items in your shopping cart or hands and match your purchases with receipts to confirm payment for all items. Once your cart is verified, you can walk out.

What checkout method do I need to use to exit with the arches?

You can use any checkout method including Scan & Go checkout, self-checkout or associate checkout.

What is being captured?

The cameras capture images of you and items in your shopping cart or hands from cameras mounted above and to the side.

Does Sam’s Club store or share information captured?

Images are temporarily stored in our system and then deleted. This helps us train our models, improve our technology, troubleshoot issues, and increase the accuracy of item verification.

Do I have to walk through the arches?

Yes, all members will exit the club through the arches.

Do I need to do anything specific with items in my cart or that I’m holding?

No, items can remain in your cart or hands as is. Leave your items unbagged so the arches can identify each one.

Do I still need to have my receipt checked?

Some receipts may need to be checked if there are any discrepancies or if there are any items that require identification verification. In those instances, an associate will further assist you.

What happens if there is a discrepancy between what is in my cart or hands and my receipt?

A member specialist will check your receipt to clear up any discrepancies. If an item was missed, you will have the option to purchase the item or place it aside.

By adding this technology, are you taking away jobs?

Our member specialist will continue to engage with members as they exit the club.

Will this technology speed up my exit from the club?

Yes, most receipts won’t need to be checked. The member specialist will let you know if you’re good to go or if your receipt needs to be checked.

Does this technology use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)?

RFID is employed to capture item details as you exit.
