Double Decker Brownies
Two layers of rich, fudgy brownies = double the compliments when you serve ‘em up.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
- 3 eggs, room temperature
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 1/4 cups flour (with additional 1/4 added later)
- 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/3 cup cocoa powder, sifted
- 1 Tbsp. butter, melted
- 1 cup M&M’s candies, divided
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a 9”x 13” baking pan with cooking spray. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter. Add in sugars, creaming well (up to 10 minutes). Add eggs and vanilla, beating well.
- Add flour, baking powder and salt. Stir until just combined. Divide the batter in half, moving half of the batter into a medium sized bowl.
- To the mixing bowl with half the batter, add melted butter and sifted cocoa powder. Mix with paddle attachment until completely combined. Spread brownie layer into the prepared baking pan. Use a rubber spatula to carefully smooth the batter fully to all edges. Set aside.
- To the second half of the dough (the "blondie" layer), use a wooden spoon to mix in remaining 1/4 cup flour and 1/2 cup of M&M’s candies. Stir just until combined.
- Place blondie dough on top of brownie batter. Use a rubber spatula to smooth the top layer across, careful not to combine the two layers. Spread the remaining candies across the top of the batter.
- Bake 25–30 minutes, until edges begin to pull away from the pan (or check in the center with a toothpick for doneness).
- Cool completely on a baking rack then cut into squares. Store leftovers in an air tight container.
