Double Decker Brownies

Two layers of rich, fudgy brownies = double the compliments when you serve ‘em up.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 3 eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 1/4 cups flour (with additional 1/4 added later)
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder, sifted
  • 1 Tbsp. butter, melted
  • 1 cup M&M’s candies, divided

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray a 9”x 13” baking pan with cooking spray. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter. Add in sugars, creaming well (up to 10 minutes). Add eggs and vanilla, beating well.
  2. Add flour, baking powder and salt. Stir until just combined. Divide the batter in half, moving half of the batter into a medium sized bowl.
  3. To the mixing bowl with half the batter, add melted butter and sifted cocoa powder. Mix with paddle attachment until completely combined. Spread brownie layer into the prepared baking pan. Use a rubber spatula to carefully smooth the batter fully to all edges. Set aside.
  4. To the second half of the dough (the "blondie" layer), use a wooden spoon to mix in remaining 1/4 cup flour and 1/2 cup of M&M’s candies. Stir just until combined.
  5. Place blondie dough on top of brownie batter. Use a rubber spatula to smooth the top layer across, careful not to combine the two layers. Spread the remaining candies across the top of the batter.
  6. Bake 25–30 minutes, until edges begin to pull away from the pan (or check in the center with a toothpick for doneness).
  7. Cool completely on a baking rack then cut into squares. Store leftovers in an air tight container.
