Ingredients

  • 7 Tbsp. Country Crock® Original Spread, divided
  • 1 large yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 ½ cups vegetable stock, plus ½ cup more as needed
  • ¼ cup fresh sage
  • 3 ½ Tbsp. flour
  • 1 cup apple cider
  • ¼ tsp. each salt and pepper

Directions

  1. Melt 2 Tbsp. Country Crock® Original Spread in a medium saucepan over medium–low heat. Add the onions and sauté, stirring, until beginning to turn golden brown, 5–6 minutes. Add garlic and sauté for another minute.
  2. Add vegetable stock and fresh sage and bring to a boil over medium–high heat. Reduce heat to simmer and let simmer for 15 minutes.
  3. Strain the stock into a measuring cup and discard the vegetables and sage. You should have about 2 ½–3 cups of liquid remaining.
  4. In the same pot, melt remaining 5 Tbsp. Original Spread over medium heat. Add flour and stir to combine. Cook for 1–2 minutes until it smells fragrant and begins to turn golden.
  5. Slowly pour in 2 ½ cups stock followed by the apple cider, whisking constantly to combine. Bring to a boil and cook for 1–2 more minutes until thickened as desired, adding up to ½ cup more vegetable stock as needed to thin the gravy to your liking.
  6. Serve over your favorite meal. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer and reheat on the stove to serve.

Tip

Don’t skip using creamy Country Crock® spread in two separate steps of this recipe—first to brown the onions, and then to start your gravy base. Those two steps help deliver the extra rich country-fresh flavor that will have everyone asking for the recipe.
